Their Wedding Story
Some weddings are memorable because of grand gestures. Others are unforgettable because of the quiet moments in between.
Katie and Jordan's wedding was filled with both.
Their day began at The Oread Hotel in Lawrence, Kansas, where they each spent the morning getting ready with their closest family and friends before heading to Danforth Chapel for their ceremony.
With its beautiful stained glass windows and historic architecture, Danforth Chapel provided the perfect setting for a timeless ceremony. Afterward, guests made their way to Cider Gallery, where an outdoor cocktail hour and elegant reception awaited.
The forecast had called for rain throughout the day.
As with every wedding, we had a backup plan ready if the weather didn't cooperate. Thankfully, the rain held off long enough for guests to enjoy cocktail hour outside before celebrating the rest of the evening inside Cider Gallery.
Sometimes a little flexibility, plenty of preparation, and a bit of good fortune are all you need.

Getting Ready at The Oread Hotel
One of my favorite parts of any wedding day is the excitement that fills the morning.
The anticipation is building, family members are helping with the final touches, and months of planning are about to become reality.
Katie spent the morning surrounded by the people she loves most while Jordan prepared with his groomsmen just down the hall. These quieter moments always remind me that a wedding day isn't just about the ceremony. It's about everyone who helped shape the journey to get there.
A Ceremony at Danforth Chapel
Danforth Chapel is one of Lawrence's most recognizable ceremony venues, and it's easy to understand why.
As guests filled the chapel, Katie made her way down the aisle to meet Jordan beneath the beautiful stained glass windows.
The ceremony was heartfelt, joyful, and full of genuine emotion. It was one of those ceremonies where you could feel how excited everyone was to celebrate these two.
Portraits Around Lawrence
After the ceremony, we captured portraits outside Danforth Chapel before heading to Cider Gallery.
Katie's classic gown paired beautifully with the blue color palette chosen for the wedding party, creating portraits that feel timeless rather than trendy.
One of my favorite things about Wedding Day Management is protecting enough time in the timeline so couples never feel rushed during portraits. Those are often the photos that hang on the walls of their home for decades to come.
An Outdoor Cocktail Hour
Although the forecast had us watching the weather all week, guests were still able to enjoy cocktail hour outside in the courtyard before moving inside for dinner.
Having a weather backup plan gave everyone peace of mind, but being able to use the outdoor space made the evening feel even more special.
Sometimes the best wedding plans are the ones you prepare for but never have to use.
My Favorite Moment of the Day
Every wedding has one moment that stays with me long after the day is over. For Katie and Jordan, it happened just before the reception.
After guests had been invited inside to find their seats, the courtyard became quiet. With no audience watching, Katie and Jordan took a few minutes to practice their first dance together. It wasn't part of the formal reception. It wasn't a performance. It was simply two newlyweds taking a breath together before the celebration continued.
Those are the moments I love protecting.
Wedding days move quickly, and intentionally creating space like this allows couples to slow down and simply enjoy being married before the evening becomes a whirlwind of dinner, toasts, and dancing.
Celebrating at Cider Gallery
The reception inside Cider Gallery was filled with joyful conversations, heartfelt dances, and plenty of laughter.
From the beautiful cake by Morning Fog Bakery & Café to the packed dance floor later in the evening, every part of the celebration reflected Katie and Jordan's personalities.
By the time the evening ended, what had started as months of planning had become a day they could simply enjoy together.

DIY Fresh Flowers? Give Yourself More Time Than You Think.
DIY flowers can be beautiful and are a great way to personalize your wedding.
They can also become one of the most time-consuming projects during wedding week.
Fresh flowers typically arrive only a day or two before the wedding, which means bouquets, centerpieces, boutonnieres, and ceremony arrangements all need to be created while you're also attending your rehearsal, welcoming out-of-town guests, and finishing countless last-minute details.
If you're planning to DIY your flowers:
Finish arrangements the day before the wedding whenever possible.
Recruit plenty of helpers so the work is shared.
Make a detailed plan for transportation and setup.
Assign someone who knows exactly where every arrangement belongs.
If you're working with a coordinator, communicate your floral plan early so they can oversee setup while you enjoy your morning.
Beautiful DIY florals are absolutely possible. The key is giving yourself more time than you think you'll need.
